The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is reminding sectoral representatives sitting as members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod to always consider the sector they are representing in the decisions they make this election period.

“For those ex-officio members, they must not forget the sector they are representing,” Paisal O. Abutazil, DILG 9 Regional Director said in an interview.

According to Abutazil, they must not forget that the reason why they are in position is because of the sector they are representing.

Abutazil added that sectoral representatives who might be supporting certain candidates during this election have a tendency to forget the sector they are representing, thus the reminder.

Three sectoral representatives sit as councilors in the Zamboanga Sangguniang Panlungsod.

These are councilors Jerry Perez who represents the Liga ng Mga Barangay, Tungkuh Hanapi who represents the Indigenous People, and Cary John Pioc who represents the Sangguniang Kabataan.

These representatives are considered powerful as  they can help convince members in their sector to vote for  certain candidates.

Most of these representatives also have their personal choices who among the candidates they will support. Some shows their support openly while others are just silent. (RGAAGo)
