Congressman Celso L. Lobregat yesterday expressed optimism that the appointment of Gerky Valesco as a member of the Sanguniang Panlungsod of Zamboanga City for the first district will most likely be signed by President Rodrgio R. Duterte anytime soon.

Valesco, who is a regular member of the Laban ng Demokratikong Party (LDP) here in the city, has been chosen by the local LDP party to replace the position left vacant by District I Councilor Myra Paz Valderosa-Abubakar after she was appointed by President Duterte to the position of Tourism regional director and eventually as Tourism assistant secretary for Mindanao.

“We are making the necessary follow ups with the Office of the President thru Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea for the appointment of Mr. Gerky Valesco. I believe that within this month or early next month Valesco’s appointment would already be signed by our beloved president,” Lobregat bared.

The congressman said that Valesco is a highly qualified professional that deserves to be appointed as city councilor, besides the latter is also a 3-termer councilor who had served the august body with diligence, integrity and dedication.

During his nine years in the local legislative body, Valesco has been instrumental in the passage of vital legislative measures and ordinances.

In fact, he is known as a hardworking and brilliant member of the local august body, a good leader and team player, especially when he was the chairperson of the Council’s powerful committee on appropriation.

Valesco, who is an artist, former television reporter and anchor, is well-loved by the education sector since he was active in the conduct of free seminars and trainings for campus journalism and reporting, painting, among others.

“We are confident that Gerky’s appointment is already underway… and for sure he will have a very Merry Christmas,” Lobregat said in a jest.—Jemuel E. Mojica
