Infighting within the ranks of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) is far from over.

This despite a two-week time frame given by the MILF central committee to erstwhile field commander Ameril Umra Kato who defied the MILF leadership and formed his own group — the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Movement (BIFM), to “reconcile” with the MILF central committee.

Abu Misri Mama, BIFM spokesperson, said Kato rejected the call by the Ulama Council for him to go to Camp Darapanan, the MILF’s main headquarters, to settle “misunderstanding.”

“He might be ambushed on his way there,” Mama said.

Instead, he said Kato wanted MILF chair Ebrahim Murad to go to Camp Omar, Kato’s stronghold, for a dialogue.

Earlier, Ghadzali Jaafar, MILF vice chair for political affairs, said the Ulama (Muslim religious leaders) urged Kato to “settle his dispute peacefully with the MILF central committee.”

He was given by the MILF until Sept. 26 to “reconcile” with the MILF central committee. Otherwise, he will be declared no longer covered by the GPH-MILF ceasefire agreement.
