Groups drum up support for RH Bill PDF Print E-mail

The Philippine NGO Council on Population Health and Welfare Inc., together with the Youth Consortium, Commission on Population and Gabriela Partylist, will conduct a series of RH sticker campaigns and RH pin distribution in key areas in Zamboanga City to drumbeat support and increase awareness to the public on the pending Reproductive Health Bill.

The purpose of the activity is to call on Cngress to fasttrack the passage of the RH bill.

The youth consortium, headed by its chair Nurse Jonathan Monis together with POPCOM 9 will conduct a series of Adolescent Reproductive Health in different public and private high schools and other learning institutions to help increase knowledge and perception of students regarding the RH bill.

The event will also be an avenue to invite students and teachers to join the October 7 Purple Ribbon Campaign for RH.

The Philippine NGO Council on Population, Health and Welfare Inc. (PNGOC) is a national umbrella network with more than 95 members NGOs believing that now is the right time for the passage of a Reproductive Helath, Responsible Parenthood and Population Development policy to recognize the needs of women, children and families.

The youth consortium has been going around the country and conducting dialogues among young people.

Zamboanga City is the first stop in the Mindanao leg of the campus tour.

Last June 2011, the team was in Cebu City and was able to establish a chapter, the Visayas Youth Consortium.

The Adolescent Reproductive Health Fora in Zamboanga City runs parallel with the ARH schools tours in Metro Manila and Baguio City, which aims to heighten young people’s awareness and understanding of the RH bill. — Dan Toribio Jr.
