The number of teams joining the 7th Cong. Erbie A. Fabian Cup (Student Basketball Tournament) has increased.
The much awaited event opens on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 9 a.m. at the Zamboanga City Coliseum.

For category under 16 (born 1996 & up), there are 16 school teams vying, while for the collegiate level, there are eight teams.
The emerging city collegiate champion team will represent Zamboanga city in the regional finals, while the under 16 city champion will go straight to the finals in Baguio City next January.

Considered as one of the best discoveries of young players, Zamboanga City has produced local talents in the likes of FEU guard RR Garcia and Philippine Team mainstay Andy Mark Barroca.

There are also other local grown-ups now suiting up for various UAAP, NCAA and other Manila-based teams in various leagues.

The Federacion Basketbolista de Zamboanga (FBZ) has been in the forefront of dedicating this city-based tournament as part of molding up the local youth and the development of basketball sports as a healthy product of good citizenry and skills training.    One of FBZ’s mottos is “Magbola, Huwag Magdroga”.

The fbz is the local National Sports Association’ accredited group for basketball operations for Western mindanao, under the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas or SBP.
