The celebration of the Philippine Tourism Week in the city intensifies further as drum and lyre corps representing 10 elementary schools will outplay each other this afternoon (September 26) at the Jardin Maria Clara in Pasonanca.

Participating schools will perform in the following order: Zamboanga West Central School, Catalina Vda. de Leon Memorial School, Zamboanga East Central School, Sta. Maria Central School, Putik Central School, Tetuan Central School, Boalan Central School, Divisoria Elementary School, Cabaluay Elementary School and Zambowood Elementary School.

The bands are composed of up to 50 members to include baton twirlers and flag bearers. During the performance show, each group will be given six minutes to perform “No Te Vayas a Zamboanga” with the option of adding other songs of their choice. Props and other theatrical accessories not handled or carried by performing members are prohibited.

Performances will be judged by how well the corps plays as a group (Music Ensemble – 25%); how well each member plays (Music Individual – 25%); the group’s look (Visual Ensemble – 30%); and their overall effect (Visual Effect – 20%).

Winners shall be awarded the following prizes: First Prize – P25,000; Second Prize – P20,000; Third Prize – P15,000 while non-winning participants shall receive P7,000 as consolation prize.

In addition, a special cash award of P5,000 and trophy for Best Trainer will automatically go to the trainer of the winning corps.

Competition will be staged at 4pm today at the Jardin Maria Clara Lobregat in Pasonanca and will precede the inauguration of the Laminar shooting jets (fountain) inside the park. —Claudine Uniana/City Hall PIO
