House Deputy Speaker for Mindanao Beng Climaco has highly praised various non-government organizations for efforts to ensure check and balance in government.
The congresswoman said this, as InciteGov, an NGO together with the People Power Revolution Volunteers (PPRV) and other agencies on Saturday initiated a lecture on the General Appropriations Act (GAA) specifically how the budget is allocated to government agencies including issues concerning the government’s revenue and expenditure program.

The lecture/forum, held at the Garden Orchid Hotel was attended by some 30 representatives from the business sector and other NGOs and sectors in the city. It was done in coordination with Climaco’s office.

The lecture intended to teach people to stay vigilant in budget appropriations.
Climaco expressed appreciation on efforts initiated by NGOs and other groups to make sure that the government indeed works for the people.

“Dr. Anton Lim of PPRV, Ms Tanya Hamada of InciteGov, Christian Olasiman from my office convened these people from various sectors to let people see and understand how budget is given out to different branches of government,” the lady solon stressed.

The House of Representatives approved the proposed 2012 budget or General Appropriations Act in the amount of P1.8 Trillion before midnight of Sept. 15 after weeks of extended committee work and nine days of marathon plenary sessions

Climaco served as presiding officer in some of the long hours of plenary budget deliberation.

The congresswoman said the event was appropriate and timely especially with the recently passed budget. — Marvin Segura
