A family of four was massacred by armed men who broke into their house and later fled with their money and valuables at Purok 6, Bogayo, Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur last Monday night.

Police identified the fatalities as Elizabeth Ybañez, 58, widow, her granddaughters, Cherry Mae Saquilabon, 16, and Karen Andojo, 23, and their cousin John Ryan Celario, 4.

The victims sustained stab and hack wounds in the body and died on the spot.
A police report disclosed that the four family members were sleeping inside their house around 9 p.m. when two unidentified men armed with bolos broke in and attacked them while they were lying on the floor and bed.

Ocular investigation conducted by responding policemen showed that the killers got P4,000 in cash, two cell phones and a silver necklace.

Police were looking at robbery as one of the possible motives behind the massacre but they were not discounting personal or family dispute as the motive behind the killing of four family members.

A source told DZT that the killers stole the money and valuables just to mislead police investigators.
