Mayor Celso Lobregat commended yesterday the General Services Office Family and Friends Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GSOFFMPC) for having been awarded as regional winner in the recently concluded “Gawad Pitak” by the Land Bank of the Philippines.

“The award is a manifestation that the GSOFFMPC is one of the most stable and strong cooperatives in the region,” Lobregat said when Land Bank officials headed by Branch Manager Augusto Galozo presented the trophy to GSOFFMPC officials headed by Bernardita Chiong at the City Hall Conference Room.

The search for “Gawad Pitak” (Pinakatanging Kooperatiba) was held in celebration of Land Bank’s 48th Anniversary last August 8. It recognizes the important contribution of cooperatives to national development in adherence to the mission of the Land Bank of the Philippines.

The trophy is signed by Land Bank Chairman Cesar Purisima, Land Bank President and CEO Gilda Pico, former Senator Miguel Zubiri as chairman of Gawad Pitak Board of Judges and Jose Pin, co-chair.

Established in 1999, the GSOFFMPC provides credit facilities, savings operations and providential benefits to its members who are mostly employees of the city government. It is the first cooperative in Zamboanga City to receive Land Bank’s Gawad Pitak (Inspiring Achievers) non-agri based category.

Also present during the awarding ceremony in City Hall were Catalino Sustiguier, head of LBP’S Development Assistance Center for Coops; Roel Tarroza, head of LBP’s Zamboanga City Lending Center, GSO-Coop’s treasurer Leonor Aizon and board member Milagros Saavedra. — Vic Larato/City Hall PIO
