Residents of barangay Tigbalabag, some 70 kilometers east of the city have highly praised the city government under the leadership of Mayor Celso Lobregat for looking after the welfare of the residents in the far flung villages through continuous implementation of projects.

The residents, headed by barangay chairman Rolando Ofendoreyes said this, as they formally accepted from Mayor Celso Lobregat the P2.3 million multi-purpose covered court project Monday morning.

The covered court is only one of the almost P8 million infrastructure projects that Lobregat administration implemented in the barangay since 2007.

But as he turned over the covered court project, the mayor also urged Orendoreyes and other barangay officials to fast track the negotiations for the donation of private lots near adjacent the covered court where he intends to construct the barangay hall and a police action center.

The mayor likewise inspected the barangay health center, as he expressed intentions to expand and improve the facility.

Tigbalabag, the mayor said, will also be the priority in the distribution of heavy duty vehicles which the city government is set to acquire for the 90 mainland barangays in the months to come. The island barangays will get pumpboats and multi-cab vehicles.

Ofendoreyes said the barangay is very grateful to Mayor Lobregat, the City Council and the city government in general for including Tigbalabag in its list of project recipients despite the distance from the city proper.

Mayor Lobregat was accompanied by Councilors Nonong Guingona, Myra Paz Abubakar, Percival Ramos, Rudy Lim, Mike Alavar and Eddie Saavedra and City Engineer Luis Despalo during the turn over rites.

The almost P8million projects poured in Tigbalabag included the construction of a day care center, installation of street light facilities, improvement/rehabilitation of school building, rehabilitation of health center, improvement of farm to market roads, construction of school fence at the elementary school, construction of irrigation structure and several others.

From Tigbalabag, the mayor and the councillors proceeded to Tagasilay National High School where they also turned over P4.2 million worth of projects consisting of a renovated/improved school building and multi-purpose covered court in celebration of the school’s 17th founding anniversary. — Sheila Covarrubias
