Mayor Celso Lobregat now heads the Ad Hoc committee that will conduct initial screening of police applicants and the documentary requirements as provided for the PO1 attrition recruitment program 2011.

This, pursuant to Executive Order No. CL 420-2011 issued September 26 amending EO 409-2011 of July 5, 2011.

The members of the committee are Moh. Taha Arakama, DILG City Director; Pedro Melchor Natividad, Assistant City Schools Division Superintendent and Peace and Order Council Member from the Academe; Corazon Herico, Soroptimist International/Woman member from the NGO; Violeta Alejandro, Zamboanga City Homeowners and People’s Federation, Inc. (alternate member) and P/SSupt. Edwin de Ocampo, acting City Police Director.

Based on the executive order, the Deputy City Police Director or the Station Administrative Officer of the Zamboanga City Police Office will serve as the secretariat. He shall “publish the list of applicants in at least 5 public places and through the local media, if any, to encourage the public to report any information relative to the worthiness of the applicant to become a law enforcer in their community”.

The attrition recruitment program is provided under National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Memorandum Circular 2007-009 prescribing the procedures and guidelines in the recruitment, selection and appointment of PO1 that would ensure the entry of highly qualified individuals into the police service and to strengthen the human resource capability of the PNP.

The retirement of Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Dolores Alcantara last September 16 necessitated the amendment in the membership of the committee. A new representative also was named to include an alternate member of the Woman member from the NGO. — Sheila Covarrubias
