Personally spearheading the different events kicking off the 2011 Zamboanga Hermosa Festival yesterday, Mayor Celso Lobregat invited people from here and other parts of the country and the world to visit Zamboanga this October and join in the grand celebration of Fiesta Pilar in honor of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar.

The first day of the Festival started off with a blast—opening of the 8th Cosechas de Zamboanga, an agri-trade fair at the Veterans Memorial park in Rizal Street; opening of the 7th Mayor Celso L. Lobregat Golf Tournament; Boy Scout Council Fiesta Pilar Scout Rally at the Paseo del Mar; opening of the 2011 Cooperative Month celebration; National Children’s Month celebration; Vamos a Zamboanga Safari Photo Contest; Cats and Dogs Day Fair in Pasonanca; opening of Art Exhibit “Solamente Zamboanga” at the Garden Orchid Hotel lobby; opening of the 6th Inter-Barangay Cluster Cultural Presentation at Paseo del Mar and San Miguel Rocks Fiesta Hermosa “Rock the Fort” at Plaza del Pilar.

Themed “Zamboanga Hermosa: Vamos a Zamboanga”, the city’s grandest festival highlights the city’s unique blend of multi-cultural heritage. It is an all encompassing and complete festival that culminates on the 12th day of October, the feast day of the Nuestra Senora de La Virgen del Pilar, the city’s patron saint.

“Vamos A Zamboanga, let’s go to Zamboanga, Asia’s Latin City and enjoy Fiesta Hermosa, a celebration of Zamboanga’s dances, songs, culture and art in honor of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar”, the mayor cheerfully said, as he expressed elation that the early morning downpour yesterday did not dampen the spirit of the participants to the different activities.

He said: “We are inviting everybody from here and around the globe to come, see and experience the beautiful Zamboanga, we will have series of activities that will lead up to the feast day of our Nuestra Senora de la Virgen del Pilar on October 12.”

Lobregat was with Councilor Nonong Guingona in gracing the opening of the series of activities during the first day of Fiesta Hermosa yesterday. Councilor Myra Paz
