PRO-9 intensifies info campaign on trafficking PDF Print E-mail

The Police Regional Office-9’s  Intelligence Division (R-2) recently held a conference in Camp Abelon, Pagadian City, attended by representatives from different police units and other agencies as part of its intensified information campaign to combat human trafficking in the region.

Philippine Center on Transnational Crimes Western  Mindanao Field Officer Chief Insp. Alex  Lorenzo disclosed that their regional chief, Supt. Celso L/ Bael, attended the  conference that was presided by PRO-9 Regional Intelligence  Chief Sr. Supt. Joselito Pajarillaga. It was also attended by Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Diretor Sr. Supt. Bayani  Jose L.  Gucela, an intellligence officer of the  Army’s 102nd Brigade, 1st Tabak Division, different intelligence officers of  Zamboanga del Sur municipal police stations and different local government officers of the province.

Lorenzo said that most of the victims of human tracfficking are innocent people from the different provinces and municipalties in the country.

He said that human traffickers use different tricks, sweet talks and promises and are “disguised as lambs but are wolves in reality.”

Lorenzo called on the people who seek employment abroad to be vigilant and always careful in dealing with people.

“They must go to the Department of Foreign Affairs or  the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration to inquire the status of the company that they are applying with,” Lorenzo advised.

Meanwhile, Lorenzo also said that Supt. Bael was also a lecturer in the series  of orientation seminars on R.A. 9208 held recently in the different municipalities of the region.

The orientation seminars weresponsored by the Department of Social Welfare and Development 9 in partnership with local leaders of the municipalities  and the Women and Chlidren’s Desk of the different municipal police stations in the region. It was held in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, Vincenzo Sagun, Lapuyan, Margosatubig, Dipolog City and Dapitan City. —  Allen Abastillas
