Two pirates were wounded and captured during a sea clash off Limaong, Vitali yesterday morning.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo disclosed that troops from the Navy’s 14th reconnaissance company were on seaborne patrol near Santing-Santing,
Barangay Limaong around 4 a.m. when they spotted two men aboard two pumpboats. The two men opened fire on them.

The Navy men returned fire triggering a five-minute exchange of fire, after which the two wounded pirates were captured.

De Ocampo said the Navy operatives recovered two homemade shotguns and two motorized pumpboats from the suspects, who were taken to a hospital for treatment while the recovered items were turned over to the police for investigation.

The Navy patrol boat was hit by bullets, apparently from high powered firearms.

Authorities suspected the pirated threw their high powered firearms into the water before they were cornered by the Navy operatives. — Dan Toribio Jr.
