House Deputy Speaker Beng Climaco and Rep. Gina de Venecia will spearhead in the House of Representatives today, the opening of Pink October”, a breast cancer awareness and prevention program, which has now become a nationwide activity.

Pink October is a project that Climaco initiated in Zamboanga when she was still the vice mayor and introduced the same in the House of Representatives when she assumed office in 2007.

The project in the House will be in partnership with Kasuso Foundation. The activities today will include the flag raising ceremony with House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte and privilege speech by De Venecia as requested by Climaco.

A forum on breast care awareness and free examination for all members and employees will also be held.

All House members are encouraged to wear pink attire and pink ribbons today in celebration of Pink October.

It is recalled that the Pink October advocacy was initiated in Zamboanga City by Climaco and the Gender and Development (GAD). When she assumed office in July 2007, she challenged members of Congress to replicate the program in their individual districts. — Marvin Segura
