District 2 Congressman Erbie A. Fabian led yesterday city officials and officers of the Zamboanga City Medical Center in the blessing and inauguration of the Phase 2 project of the Psychiatry Ward.

The turnover ceremony was timely because the city and the entire country are observing the “2011 World Mental Health  Week”  with the theme “ The Great Push: Investing in Mental and Health”.

In his message, Rep. Fabian told the officials that he is doing his best in coordination with the local government unit to make the Zamboanga City Medical Center a relevant hospital not only for Zamboanga City but for the entire region in terms of health care services.

Fabian said that a bill he authored that seeks to increase the bed capacity of ZCMC from 250 to 500 has already been approved by the Lower House. It is now under the Senate Committee on Health chaired by Senator Pia Cayetano.

He  expressed gratitude to Councilor Lilia Macrohon- Nuño, chairperson of the City Council’s Committee on Health for sponsoring resolution for his House bill.

ZCMC Chief Dr. Romeo Ong said that the project on the Psychiatry Ward was implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways District Office under Engineer Merham Acas with funding from Fabian’s Congressional allocation.

The amenities of the ward include roof shelter, walking and recreational area, nursing stations, three rooms, comfort rooms, fencing areas and visitors area.
Ong said the project’s Phase 3 will soon be implemented. — Allen Abastillas
