The Zamboanga Columnists Club has passed a resolution endorsing Maj. Gen. Juanco Saban for appointment as commander of the military's Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) based in Zamboanga City.

In an emergency meeting the other day, the club officers and members, who write column for local newspapers, endorsed Gen. Saban citing his many accomplishments as a younger marine officer and as a commander of the Task Force Comet based in Sulu, some few years ago.

The club, headed by its president Betty Elago (Tickle Me Pink, DZT), said Saban is the "foremost implementor" of the so-called "80-20" ratio in approaching and solving armed conflicts and rebellions in the south.

Under the scheme, 80% are concentrated by Saban on civil-military operations aimed at genuinely promoting the well-being of the people, to win their hearts and minds.

While commanding the Task Force Comet, Saban engaged his troops in combatting illiteracy, poverty, lawlessness and injustice and providing them with basic services.

The other officers of the club aside from Elago are Dante Corteza (Pep Talk, DZT), Diday Saavedra (Body and Soul, Zamboanga Star), Jade Verde ( Zampen Journal), Mila Arieta (Mila at Large, Zamboanga Today), Andy Navarro ( Zamboanga Star), Frency Carreon (Philsouth Angle), Bong Bue ( DZT) and Cecil Abuy ( Zamboanga Today).
