Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Director for National Blood Services Monina Nalupta has commended Mayor Celso Lobregat for the very successful bloodletting activity initiated by the city government and Zamboanga Red Cross Sunday, considered as the “bloodiest” ever.

“You are indeed the bloodiest Mayor and PRC governor! Thank you for your continued support to our organization. The partnership of PRC Zamboanga City and the local government is very vital and without your presence and support, events such as this will not have an impact,” Dr. Nalupta said in a message relayed through PRC Zamboanga administrator Vic Liozo Jr. yesterday.

Nalupta stressed that the Blood Services family and the PRC National Headquarters management appreciate Mayor Lobregat’s commitment to uphold the agency’s mission and vision.

The bloodletting activity held October 2 in line with the Fiesta Hermosa 2011 celebration was considered as the biggest gathering of blood donors.

Liozo also said that the activity initiated by Mayor Lobregat as Red Cross governor broke the records of previous sponsored blood-letting activities in the city and even in the entire country. “This is also the biggest blood donation ever initiated by a Red Cross governor in the person of Mayor Lobregat.”

The bloodletting, conducted in coordination with the local Red Cross and the Zamboanga City Blood Council,  mustered 271 donors.

Among those who donated blood were students from the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology, Universidad de Zamboanga, policemen, Air Force Reservists, firemen, Montero Bikers Association members, Suzuki riders and some Tyrogin fraternity members. — Sheila Covarrubias
