Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar has welcomed the decision of Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo in activating a sub-regional police command in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

The sub-regional police command, which is based in Patikul, Sulu, was activated last Monday by Robredo.

It will function as a major command with jurisdiction over the police forces in the provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

Akbar said the activation of the sub-regional police office will further strengthen the delivery of services especially on peace and order concerns.
Its activation will bring the PNP headquarters closer to the people it serves as well as hasten the process in attending to the needs of the police forces in the three provinces, Akbar said.

The headquarters of the Police Regional Office-ARMM (PRO-ARMM) is located in Parang, Maguindanao.

The activation of the sub-regional command will also mean the deployment of more equipment and police forces to the three provinces, Akbar said.

PRO-ARMM director Chief Supt. Bienvenido Latag has designated his Deputy Regional Director for Administration (DRDA), Chief Supt. Raul Boac as the PRO-ARMM sub-command chief, pursuant to Philippine National Police (PNP) General Order dated September 23, 2011.
