Mayor Celso Lobregat has declared November 7-13, this year as Freemasons Week in Zamboanga City in time for the 17th Western Mindanao Masonic Convention slated for Nov. 12-13 in the city.

This was announced yesterday by City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr., who is currently the officer-in-charge and city caretaker in the absence of Mayor Lobregat.

Orendain said that the mayor has issued Executive Order No. CL 368-2010, declaring the Freemasons Week in connection with the forthcoming Masonic Convention with the theme, “By Precept and Example, We Shall Distinguish our Conduct as Men and as Masons.”

According to Orendain, the Convention is a tradition that all Masons look forward to and cherish as an auspicious forum to strengthen the brotherhood of masons under the fatherhood of God.

The two-day convention will be spearheaded by the Masonic District for Region 9-C, which is comprised of five lodges, namely; the Mount Apo Lodge No. 45, Bud Daho Lodge No. 102, J.S. Alano Lodge No. 137, Bud Bongao Lodge No. 288 and the Sambangan Lodge No. 310.

It will likewise enable the masons to blend their tenets and teaching with good deed, Ordendain said.

The City Council has also passed a resolution last October 27, favorably endorsing the request for the declaration of Freemasons Week in a bid to boost and promote not only the cause of Masonry but also Zamboanga, being Asia’s Latin City.

Danilo M. Bucoy, district deputy grand master and convention chairman, in a letter to the local legislative body said that several activities have been lined up for the event, which is expected to gather around 350 delegates from other Masonic districts from the different provinces and cities in Mindanao.
