Fiesta Hermosa nears peak: Jobs fair, sports, concert on PDF Print E-mail

Despite the occasional inclement weather, Zamboanga residents and visitors are bracing for more fun and excitement as Fiesta Hermosa 2011 enters its 8th day today, October 8.

Topping the list of events today (Saturday) are the Cong. Erbie Fabian golf tournament (Oct 8-9) at 7am at the Zamboanga Golf Course; Zamboanga Hermosa Festival Tennis Tournament 2011 National Junior Age Grouper (Oct 8-10) 8am at the Zamboanga Lawn Tennis Lane; Voice of our New Generation at 3pm at the Astoria Hotel; Amateur boxing at 3pm at the WMSU gymnasium and the concert by 6 bands from Manila at the Plaza del Pilar at 7pm.

Yesterday (Friday), day 7 of Fiesta Hermosa was highlighted by the Jobs Fair at the Plaza del Pilar, 1st airsoft invitational Cup- Battle at the Fort-III at the Joaquin Enriquez Sports complex;  Vista Weekend Market at the Vista del Mar (Oct 7-9 from 10am-10pm); 6th Mayor Celso Lobregat Table Tennis Cup 2011 at 10:30am at the Yubenco Starmall in Putik; 9th Dance Sport competition at 1pm at the City Coliseum; JCI Jambangan’s Amazing challenge, 2pm with starting point at City  Hall; 16th Zamboanga’s Littlel Miss Universe 2011 at 5pm at the Astoria Regency; Cong. Erbie Fabian Bowling Tournament, 6pm at the Tebi & Sean bowling lanes; Cong. Erbie Fabian Dart Tournament, 6pm at the Ram’s Restaurant and the concert of 6 bands from Manila (Maldita, Siakol, Delara, Side A, Rivermaya  and True Faith) at 7pm at the Plaza del Pilar.

On Thursday, October 6, the highlights included Pink October Walk, a fund-raising activity to help raise awareness about breast cancer; culminating activity of the Elderly Filipino Week 2011; Mascota, a fashion show of chabacano-inspired gowns and the opening of the 63rd JCI Philippines National Convention.

Nightly, Wow Zamboanga, the inter-cluster competition that features the best of the best talents from the 98 barangays go on stage at the Paseo del Mar, drawing spectators from all walks of life. It is set to culminate tonight.

On the religious side, everyday starting Oct. 3 until the 12th, processions and masses are held in honor of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar. Processions are held every 5am from the Cathedral to the Shrine followed by masses at 6am, 5:30pm (novena mass) and 6:30pm.

Mayor Celso Lobregat extends his invitation to all Zamboanguenos living here or elsewhere including visitors to participate in the different activities for the Fiesta Hermosa which is in honor of Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar.

Themed “Fiesta Hermosa...Vamos a Zamboanga”, the festival will feature more surprises in the coming days. Newly-installed Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez will keynote the grand highlight on Oct 11.
