A policeman and a four-year-old girl were seriously wounded after they were shot by one of two gunmen riding tandem on a motorcycle along Don Toribio St., Tetuan yesterday morning.

Police identified the victims as PO3 Rommel Cuadra y Esteban of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company and Maria Honey Francisco, a student of the Sunny Vale Learning Center.

A police report disclosed that Francisco is the daughter of Cuadra’s live-in-partner, Anisa Francisco, the barangay chairperson of Tagasilay.

Anisa’s husband Esmer, who was the barangay chairman of Tagasilay, was shot dead by gunmen in year 2009.

Initial investigation showed that Cuadra was taking Francisco to the Sunny Vale Learning Center at past 7 a.m. when two men aboard a aboard a red Honda Wave motorcycle appeared and the backrider opened fire on them near the school along Don Toribio St.

The gunmen sped away after the incident while Cuadra and the girl who sustained multiple bullet wounds in the body were rushed to the Western Mindanao Medical Center where they were confined. 

Investigators recovered three spent shells of .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo disclosed men under under Supt. Albert Larubis, chief of the Tetuan police station, were on hot pursuit operations for the possible arrest of the gunmen.

Investigators were working on several angles including love triangle.

De Ocampo said they will file appropriate charges in court against the assailants as soon as their identities will be know. — Dan Toribio Jr.
