Barangay officials and residents of Calabasa and Tolosa, both are far-flung villages in the east coast of this city, yesterday expressed their deepest thanks and gratitude to the city government, especially Mayor Celso Lobregat, Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde and the councilors for giving them new barangay halls.

Joselino R. Falcasantos and Pedro D. Rodriguez, barangay chairmen of Calabasa and Tolosa, respectively were one in thanking Mayor Lobregat for their new barangay halls, which were inaugurated and turned over to them yesterday, and many other projects completed and ongoing in their villages.

Aside from its new barangay hall amounting to P3.8 million, Calabasa has P7 million worth of other projects completed this year that include concreting of road- P1.5 million, improvement of farm-to-market road- P980,146.67 and the ongoing construction of a covered basketball court- -P2.7 million.

Tolosa also had its barangay hall rehabilitated in the amount of P383,990.00, bringing to P57 million worth of various infrastructure projects the city government under Lobregat’s administration has given to the barangay since 2007.

In his message during the inauguration rites, Lobregat instructed City Engineer Luis Vicente Despalo to immediately prepare the plans and estimates for the construction on a covered court in Tolosa and road pavements.

Lobregat said the projects in the different barangays, no matter the distance, only show that the development of Zamboanga is not merely concentrated in the city proper.

“If you visit the city’s 98 barangays, you will see that there are many projects either completed or ongoing,” the mayor said. “That is why, even today is Sunday were are in Tolosa and earlier in Calabasa inaugurating two important projects kilometers apart. Palta gayod el dia si inagura kita todo proyecto,” he added.

He cited the case of Barangay Tolosa where the city government had allocated P15 million for Tolosa- Lanzones- Guisao Water System Project in partnership with the Zamboanga City Water District, another P800,000 for Tolosa- Guisao- Cabaluay Water System and P1.4 million for Tolosa- Imelda- Pangulayan- Cacao Water System, all are ongoing projects.

Also ongoing in Tolosa are the construction of daycare center,     P499,316.09, improvement of farm-to-market road at Tolosa-Imelda- P5.8 million, construction of artesian well at Tolosa National High School- P99,476.29, construction of artesian well at Tolosa Elementary School- P159,718.01 and construction of school fence P499,420.44.

Together with Lobregat were Vice Mayor Iturralde, Councilors Lilia Nuno, Abdurahman Nuno, Percival Ramos and Rudy Lim and City Engineer Luis Despalo. Barangay officials from nearby villages also attended the inauguration and turnover rites.

“We will be inaugurating more projects in the days to come,” the mayor quipped. — Vic Larato
