The former mayor of  Lantawan, Basilan, Tahira Ismael, announced yesterday that that their family through their legal counsel will refile with the Department of Justice (DOJ) a case seeking another thorough investigation on the death of a family member, Congressman Wahab Akbar, who was killed in a bomb attack outside the House of  Representatives  four years ago.

Ismael is puzzled why DOJ can not  arrest the perpetrators until now with the full machinery of the government — the police, military, National Bureau of Investigation and the intelligence network.

She said the late Rep. Wahab Akbar was killed in the most peaceful area and secure government facilities but until now no justice has been done.
“ We would like  to appeal to DOJ Secretary Leila De Lima  to give justice to our brother Akbar,” Ismael said.

Ismael  disclosed that last Wednesday De Lima made an announcement that former Anak Mindanao Part List Rep. Mujiv Hataman who is one of the suspects in the killing of  Akbar, cannot hold office as Officer-in-Charge of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao ARMM) because he has a  pending case and a suspect in Akbar’s assassination.       Ismael said she was surprised that De Lima the following day (Thursday) made another announcement that Hataman was cleared.

According to Ismael, Hataman cannot govern ARMM because last election he lost to a woman when he ran as candidate for governor in Basilan.

Why is he keeping on lobbying  and insisting himself to govern ARMM. People of ARMM do not like Hataman, She also appealed to President Noynoy Aquino not to listen
to leftist people and put a leader in ARMM who is sincere and good,” Ismael said.

Ismael  expressed optimism that DOJ will do its job and justice will be given to the late  Akbar and the perpetrators will be put behind bars. — Allen Abastillas
