A five-year-old girl was rescued by barangay officials of Mariki hours after she was abducted at a downtown mall yesterday.
A police report said the girl, whose identity has been withheld, together with her parents, were inside the mall along La Purisima St. around 11 a.m. when she suddenly disappeared.

The parents said they rushed to the police station to report the incident right after they failed to locate their daughter inside the mall.

Hours later, barangay officials and tanods of Mariki noticed the presence of Kiram Arola, 28, with no permanent address, roaming around their place bringing a girl.

Arola’s attention was called by the barangay officials and tanods who found out later that he seized the girl at the mall.

Arola and the girl were taken to the police station for investigation.

The girl’s parent also proceeded to the police station after receiving information on her rescue.

Recovered from Arola’s possession was a suspected sachet of shabu and a PNP batch.

Arola was then taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered from mauling by bystanders in Mariki. — Dan Toribio Jr.
