A delegation of the International Monitoring Team (IMT) arrived yesterday in Isabela City, Basilan to investigate the October 18 encounter in Al Barka where 19 Army soldiers were killed in a firefight with Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels.

The IMT monitors the ceasefire agreement the government has entered with the MILF.

The delegation headed by Capt. Khalid Jaafar met with Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar and Vice Gov. Al-Rasheed Sakkalahul to get more data about the October firefight.
Jaafar’s team will try to determine which group violated the ceasefire agreement.
The team refused to talk to newsmen.

Meanwhile, Al Barka Mayor Abdurahman Kabukisan said that Dan Laksaw Asmawi, who was reported to have led MILF rebels in ambushing the Army soldiers is still in Sitio Bakisong, Al Barka.

Kabukisan denied reports that some secondary students in Al Barka helped the MILF rebels fight against the Army soldiers.
