The “National Convention for the Local Council of Women” to be hosted by Zamboanga City was moved from November 26-28, 2011  to January 26-28, 2012.

Councilor Lilia Macrohon-Nuño, chairperson of the City Council’s Committee on Women and Children, said the postponement was due to the peace and order problem
brought about by the recent skirmishes in Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay and the armed conflict in Basilan between army soldiers and MILF rebels.

As a result of the peace and order problem in Zamboanga Sibugay,  the provincial government has imposed curfew hour in the province.

Curfew hour was also imposed in four coastal  municipalities of Zamboanga del Sur affected by the conflict in Sibugay.

Nuño said she has explained to the council’s national officials that Zamboanga City is very far from Payao and that this city is well secured by the Philippine National Police and the military.

Some delegates from other cities of Mindanao like General Santos City,  Cagayan de Oro City, Davao City and Visayas will travel by land to attend the convention.
