House Deputy Speaker for Mindanao Beng Climaco has underscored the need to sustain peace negotiations between the government and the secessionist group Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in an effort to find solutions to the ongoing problems in Mindanao.

The lady solon said this, as she expressed full support to President Aquino’s move for all out justice instead of the all out war against the rebel group.

“We fully support the president in his move for all out justice. However, we also have to look at the situation of the military particularly the Special Forces”, Cong. Climaco said stressing that she has extended the invitation for President Aquino to come down to Zamboanga to show solidarity and moral support  to the forces.

But Cong. Climaco emphasized that “all out justice” also means that those responsible for the death of the soldiers should also be meted with the necessary sanctions.
“This means that there will be prosecution, there will be action on the part of the military as well as actions on the part of the government”.

The House Deputy Speaker pointed out that the best solution to the ongoing problem in Mindanao is for sustained negotiations as this is only venue where the International Monitoring Team (IMT), the Ad Hoc Joint Action Group (AHJAG), the Joint Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (JCCH) as well as the local government units and all others concerned groups will be able to stake their claim.

She said if there are violations by the MILF and the military, such violations should be discussed at the negotiating table and for both parties to show sincerity to surrender the lawless elements that are with and under the MILF. — Marvin Segura
