Celso leads ’27th Dia de Cesar’ events PDF Print E-mail

Mayor Celso Lobregat will lead city government officials and employees and representatives from other agencies and different sectors in the different activities lined up by the city government today, Nov. 14 in commemoration of the 27th death anniversary of the late Mayor Cesar C. Climaco.

Today’s activities will kick off with the on the spot painting contest at the Climaco Freedom Park in Abong-abong at 7 am. A commemorative mass will follow at the Our Lady of Purification Church in Sta. Maria at 8:00 am.

After the mass, a memorial motorcade will be held with starting point at Sta. Maria church, ending at the Climaco assassination site in Gov. Alvarez Street for a wreath laying rite. From Gov. Alvarez, the memorial motorcade will proceed to the Climaco Freedom Park in Abong-abong where the commemorative program will be held.

The commemoration activities kicked off November 10 with the Ben Cervantes lecture series at the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU). A similar lecture series was held at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU), Nov. 11.  Both events were participated by high school and college students.

From Nov. 12-13 the Office of Cong. Beng Climaco sponsored an assembly of members of the Sangguniang Kabataan dubbed “3rd Cesar Climaco Young Leaders Assembly- SK Leadership Camp at the Zamboanga Economic Zone in San Ramon.

The assembly is intended to respond to the need of a platform that will connect the present generation of Zamboangueño young leaders to the life, works, and legacy of the late Mayor Cesar Climaco.

Yesterday, Sunday, Nov. 13,   boy scouts from the Zamboanga BSP Council converged at the Climaco Freedom Park in Abong-abong for the vigil at the tomb of the late mayor. The vigil will culminate after the commemorative program this morning. 

The observance of Dia de Cesar is pursuant to an ordinance approved by the City Council mandating the city government to organize different activities to commemorate the death of the legendary mayor every Nov. 14th.

The late Mayor Climaco, uncle of Cong. Climaco was assassinated by still unidentified gunmen on Nov. 14, 1984, while inspecting the scene of a fire that broke out at Gov. Alvarez St. the night before.
