Zamboanga City’s representative to the 8th National Youth Parliament, Jerico Bustamante was elected parliament president of the new batch of the country’s youth parliamentarians during the 8th National Youth Parliament of the National Youth Commission, held at Almont Hotel Inland Resort, Butuan City, Agusan del Norte on November 5-8, 2010.

The Youth Parliament has been established in accordance with Republic Act 8004, the Youth in Nation Building Act. It shall be a venue for young men and women to participate in the national decision-making processes of the -government. The proceedings, declarations and resolutions of the parliament will guide the Commission in its undertakings and will be incorporated in the government's Medium Term Youth Development Program (MTYDP) to be formulated by the Commission. The Parliament will be convened every two years with a regular session for two to three days every time that it is convened. It may form task forces which may meet during the period between the convening thereof (Sec. 13, R.A. 8044).

Prior to Bustamante’s involvement in the 8th National Youth Parliament, he took an active part on different youth organizations; he is one of the pioneers of the 1st Mindanao Young Leaders Parliament, organized and convened by the National Youth Parliament Alumni Association of Mindanao on December 2005.

Meanwhile, Joseph Van Bue, also a representative of the city to the said parliament, has been appointed Majority Floor Leader. Both Bustamante and Bue are presently pushing for urgent legislative reforms on youth related policies.

The two Zamboangueño young leaders  are expected to return to Zamboanga City on the 3rd week of November after their regular sessions and trainings.
