Lantawan, Basilan Mayor Rustam Ismael turned over rubber seedlings to the town’s barangay chairmen during the launching of his “Plan Now Pay Later” program yesterday.

The program was conceived by the late Gov. and Cong. Wahab Akbar and is now being continued by his relatives who are in office like Mayor Ismael and Gov. Jum Akbar.

The launching of “Plan Now, Pay Later” coincided with the 4th death anniversary of the late Cong. Akbar.

Lantawan municipal government targets the planting of one million rubber seedlings every year.

In the whole of Basilan, Lantawan has the highest number of rubber trees.          Rubber trees covering 20 hectares in the town are ready for extrac harvest.

Mayor Ismael encouraged his constituents to engage in rubber farming instead of investing in firearms.

Ismael is expected today to conduct the planting of rubber seedlings in Barangay Matarling as part of his program.
