A 28-year-old man surrendered to the police yesterday morning, hours after he shot and wounded a policeman in Barangay Victoria last Wednesday night.

Sangali Police Station commander Chief Insp. Elmer Acuña identified the wounded policeman as SPO3 Erolde Galigao y Quirante,  one of Acuña’s men.

Christian Barring of Sangali surrendered to the police after his name surfaced during police investigation that he was one of the two men aboard a motorcycle used in the gun attack against Galicao.

Galigao underwent treatment of two bullet wounds in the body at the Zamboanga Doctors Hospital.

Acuña said that Galigao was driving a motorcycle on his way to Bolong around 8 p.m. when two men aboard another motorcycle chased him and the backrider opened fire on him.

Despite the two bullet wounds, Galigao managed to return fire but missed his targets.

Acuña and his men had earlier carried out a hot pursuit operation at Barring’s house but he escaped.

Yesterday, Barring surrendered to the barangay officials of Sangali who turned him over to the police.

Barring was brought to the 9th PNP Crime Laboratory for paraffin test. Barring denied participation in the shooting, saying he was in Guiwan when the gun attack took place. — Dan Toribio Jr.
