An employee of the Land Transportation Office and his companion were killed in a reported shootout at Sitio Asinan, Boalan last Thursday night.
Killed were Rhino Rene Lacandalo, encoder of LTO and a resident of Sta. Maria and John Jake De Leon of Pilar St. Both sustained bullet wounds in their body and died on the spot.

A sketchy report gathered by Daily Zamboanga Times disclosed that De Leon was driving a motorcycle with Lacandalo as backrider, going to Sitio Asinan in Boalan where they met two men aboard another motorcycle.

Moments later, residents heard several gunfire and Lacandalo was seen lying on the ground, while De Leon managed to drive his motorcycle as he returned fire on the gunmen.

However, few meters away, De Leon was hit in the body and ran towards a residential area where he collapsed on the ground.

The gunmen left aboard their motorcycle before the police arrived at the crime scene.

Recovered at the scene were several spent shells of unknown caliber.

The two bodies were brought to a funeral parlor for post mortem examination.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo said that men of the Divisoria police station were still working on the case. — Dan Toribio Jr.
