Forest rangers arrested a man who was caught engaging in illegal mining at the Pasonanca watershed protected area last Wednesday night. His two companions eluded arrest

Arrested was Ariel Delos Santos, 31, married, of Sitio Baluno, Salaan.

Initial investigation showed that Delos Santos and his two companions were spotted by forest rangers digging on the land within the watershed.

The rangers called their attention but Delos Santos’ companions scampered away.

Delos Santos was cornered by the rangers. Recovered from his possession was a shovel and a gold fan. He was taken to the Sta. Maria Police Station for investigation.

Meanwhile, Celong Ayong of Tumaga was arrested police detectives last Thursday night.

Ayong had a pending warrant of arrest for reckless imprudence and damage to property issued by Judge Ivan Mendoza of the Municipal Trial Court Branch 2.

The court had recommended P10,000 bail bond for his  temporary liberty. — Dan Toribio Jr.
