Ex-hostage injured in highway accident PDF Print E-mail

A humanitarian group worker who was seized along with two companions and released by kidnappers in Basilan in 2008, was injured after the Crosswind vehicle driven by her husband crashed on the concrete barrier along Lobregat Highway in Divisoria last Saturday afternoon.

Esperancita Hupida and her husband Nestor were on were travelling east aboard their Crosswind XUV when Nestor lost control of the steering wheel sending the vehicle crashing on the barrier.

Esperancita was rushed to the hospital while her businessman husband sustained slight injury.

The vehicle incurred damages.

Police said that Nestor was maneuvering the slant part of the highway when he lost control of the vehicle’s steering wheel.

To recall,  Esperancita along with Merlie Mendoza and four others — all connected with Nagdilaab Foundation, were seized by Abu Sayyaf gunmen in Basilan on September 15, 2008.

Esperancita was freed after 45 days in captivity.
