Eight fishermen were placed under questioning after they were caught fishing using explosives off Pangapuyan and Mimping in Sacol Island last Saturday morning.

Sacol policemen led by Chief Insp. Nonito Asdai were conducting seaborne patrol around 8:30 a.m. when they spotted a group of fishermen aboard two pumpboats fishing with explosives.

However, one of the two pumpboats with two persons aboard sped away after sensing the arrival of the police.

The other pumpboat with eight men aboard was cornered and the fishermen were held by the police.

The eight fishermen were identified as Yasin Bilmesin, Arani Amilhamja, Muhadi Amilhamja, Danny Amilhamja, Majid Alilhamja, Tabak Alami and Ismael Aril, all residents of Mampang and Mamang Janudin of Taluksangay.

Confiscated from their possession was one ice chest loaded with fish, two empty ice chests, two small scoops, three plastic plates and one google. — Dan Toribio Jr.
