Mayor Celso Lobregat Monday met with barangay officials and other stakeholders to finalize guidelines for this year’s Best Christmas Landmark competition, one of the highlights of 2011 Pascua na Zamboanga.

The contest encourages residents of the participating barangays to work together as one community to enliven the Christmas spirit by designating and decorating a certain area with Christmas landmarks and symbols like the traditional Belen, Christmas tree and Christmas lights.

For the past years, the exciting event had proven to usher additional excitement among constituents other than the aesthetic attractions from the fully-lighted City Hall and Plaza Pershing.

Each participating barangay is expected to come up with an entry that reflects a landmark of Christmas symbols like the Belen, X-mas tree and lights. They may use any material to decorate the said symbols provided the materials used are in consonance with their chosen concept.

The landmark dimension must not be less than 500 square meters and should be located along the road.

All interested barangays were given until December 7, 2011 to submit their entry form since judging will begin on December 12 until December 16. The judges will base their final evaluation thru the given criteria which include Concept with 40%, Artistry/Craftsmanship 30%, Widest Coverage of Christmas lights 20% and Total Impact 10%.

The winners of the said competition will be awarded on December 17, 2011, 7 PM at the Plaza del Pilar.

The first place winner will take home P75,000 followed by the second placer with P60,000, third placer with P50,000, fourth placer with P30,000 and P20,000 for the fifth placer.

Also present during the meeting were Councilor Abdurahman Nuño, who is the Liga ng mga Barangay president; City Tourism Officer Sarita Sebastian Hernandez and Chief Executive Assistant Mario Roca. — Richard Aliangan
