Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday enjoined the active participation of the young generation in the effort against drug abuse, as he urged them to organize activities where the youths can spend their time and energy productively.

Mayor Lobregat said this as he led thousands of students and teachers and representatives from various agencies and multi-sectoral groups in the program culminating the Anti-Drug Abuse and Prevention Month Friday morning at the City Coliseum in Tetuan.

Themed “Global Action for Healthy Communities Without Drugs”, the activities for the observance of the Anti-Drug Abuse and Prevention Month were jointly undertaken by the city government and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) regional office.

“Our constituents, especially the younger generation, should take extra care not to fall prey to drug pushers.  Substance use may give you short-term euphoria but it will not send your troubles away”, the mayor said stressing that drugs will only aggravate problems.

Furthermore, he stressed, drug abuse will only put one’s health in peril, which is why the use of these substances is prohibited. “I enjoin the active participation of our young leaders who should serve as examples.  Organize activities where the youths can spend their time and energy productively”.

On the other hand, the mayor said, the PDEA has been exerting all efforts to the point of risking their lives and their families at risk just to bring down drug syndicates, destroy drug dens and laboratories, put drug pushers behind bars and eliminate the trade of all forms of narcotics drugs.

The culminating program yesterday was graced by Councilors Nonong Guingona and Joana Mas, PDEA Regional Director PSupt. Adzhar Albani, Assistant Human Resource Management Officer Roderico Jose Lucero and other officials. — Sheila Covarrubias
