Van driver, bystander hurt in Lamitan City gun attack PDF Print E-mail

The driver of a passenger van was shot and wounded and one of the bullets fired by one of two gunmen also hit a young man who was accompanying his grandfather to the bus terminal in Lamitan City yesterday morning.

Wounded were Joselito Sebrero and Popoy Sabtula.

A police report disclosed that Sebrero was cleaning his van around 7 a.m. when one of two gunmen riding on a motorcycle opened fire on him.  He sustained a bullet wound in the stomach,

One of the bullets fired hit Sabtula, a resident of Tuburan.

Sebrero and Sabtula were rushed to the St. Peter Hospital for immediate medical attention, but both of them had to be transferred to a Zamboanga City hospital for further treatment.

Lamitan police investigators said they have already lead on who the perpetrators are. It was learned that there were witnesses who recognized the gunmen.

Sebrero is the second employee of D’Biel transport who became a victim of gun attack.

Last month, Pilarito Francisco, an inspector of D’Biel transport, was shot dead in Isabela City

Police believe the two gun attacks are related cases. Investigators are looking into transport business rivalry as possibly behind the incident.

Transport operators and drivers have asked authorities to adopt strict security  measures in terminals in Lamitan and Isabela Cities.
