The Sanggunian Kabataan (SK) Federation of Zamboanga City headed by Councilor Joanna Mas is waging war against illegal drugs using a popular visual medium; short films dubbed “Cine Chabacano”.

Mas said “Cine Chabacano” is a collection of short films produced by local students and shot entirely in the different locations in Zamboanga. The young leader said the premiere night is slated to be shown at Mindpro cinema on Wednesday, November 30, 2011.

Mas said the movie event is in observance of the Anti-Drugs Month capped every November. The event is also being supported by CineSur Films, Sky Cable and Councilor Gerky Valesco.

“Young people are motivated by videos and movies and this is a good vehicle where we can convey the message of saving our youth from the dreadful fangs of illegal drugs. In same respect we are also trying to develop local potentials in film making,” Mas explained.

This year’s theme is “El Moderno Joventud: Contra Droga Prohibido Para el Bien de Salud, Familia y Communidad”. Mas said the film event will be shown to the public from 10:00 in the morning until 6:00 in the evening followed by the Awards Night for the Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Film editing and many other awards.

The short film festival is actually the first of its kind in Zamboanga City and in the entire Western Mindanao.

“We are inviting young people, students and parents to watch “Cine Chabacano” as we stand united against the social ills like illegal drugs. Let us be one in trying to save our youth and their future”. Mas said.
