New PhilHealth chief visits Zambo today PDF Print E-mail

The new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), Dr. Eduardo P. Banzon, MSc., is arriving in Zamboanga City today (December 2, 2011) to visit the regional office.

Dr. Banzon is scheduled to meet with the local chief executives and health care providers of Zamboanga City during his one – day visit to tackle the different issues and concerns pertaining to the implementation of new PhilHealth benefit programs and policies and other relevant matters.

Dr. Banzon is the sixth President and CEO of PhilHealth. 

Prior to his assignment as PhilHealth chief, Dr. Banzon was a Senior Health Specialist of the World Bank, providing assistance to the Philippines and other East Asian countries on health financing, health service delivery and health regulations.  He also served as Vice President for Health Finance Policy Services (HFPS) of PhilHealth before working for the World Bank.

He is a graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and took his MSc in Health Policy, Planning and Financing from the London School of Economics and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He was a Clinical Associate Professor in the UP College of Medicine and a faculty member of the Ateneo Graduate School of Business.

According to Regional Vice President Romeo D. Alberto, the new PhilHealth chief will pursue initiatives that attract members, deliver the kind of service that delight all who walk through PhilHealth doors and develop benefits that make our members feel truly protected as new PhilHealth Chief.

Mr. Alberto also expounded that Banzon’s visit is expected to strengthen PhilHealth’s partnership with hospitals and doctors in Region IX as a whole.  – Public Affairs Unit
