Troops from the 4th Scout Ranger Battalion  have clashed with Moro gunmen and recovered seven  high-powered firearms in the hinterlands of Basilan, a military official announced Friday.

Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) spokesman Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang said the clash erupted around 6:45 a.m. Friday in Barangay Lawila, Lantawan municipality.

Cabangbang said the troops were on combat patrol in Barangay Lawila when they  chanced upon and engaged a group of armed men.

No casualty was reported on either side, said Cabangbang.

The troops have recovered an M653 known as Baby Armalite rifle, an M-16 Armalite rifle with attached M-203 grenade launcher and three rifles, he said.
