People use to personally see them shoot, fly high and run fast to lift their respective schools in the court. For years, they are seen no more. They are now donning jersey for another colleges and universities in Manila. Some are now even with professional leagues making names and giving honors to Zamboanga with their spectacular performance.

Two of these Zamboangueño superstars still continue to shine in basketball are Mark Barroca and Dondon Linganay. The two are now with the Philippine Basketball Association or PBA..

Andy as he is called, Barroca plays for B-Meg, while Linganay is with Powerade.

Barroca’s process  was tapped by B-Meg after serving the nation through the Pilipinas Smart Gilas formed by business tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan, who is serving at the same time as President of the country’s cage organization Samahang Basketbolista ng Pilipnas or SBP to launch an international campaign for the country.

Prior to his stint with the nationals, the fast running and high leaping point guard served as a front runner of the Far Eastern University and lifted the Tamaraws into a consistent title  contender in one of the two premier collegiate leagues—Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines or UAAP, averaging 20 points and 10 assists per game. Before he was pirated by the FEU in 2006,  Barroca was the mainstay of the Universidad de Zamboanga.

Linganay was picked by the University of East Red Warriors in 2005 from the Southern City Colleges. Linganay proved his worth to be in the big city for a big collegiate league, pushing UE to height in UAAP. Linganay was hired  and called to duty by the Cobra in the defunct Philippine Basketball League or PBL after his stint with the Red Warriors. Showing an impressive performance in the PBL, Linganay was pirated by the Kuala Lumpur Dragons to reinforce them in the Asean Basketball League.or ABL. Following his successful stint in the ABL, Linganay was tapped by the Powerade this year in the PBA.
