The National Convention of the Local Council of Women to be hosted by  Zamboanga City will push through on January 26 to 28, 2012.

Councilor Lilia Macrohon- Nuño, chairperson of the City Council’s Committee on Women and Children,  disclosed that the hosting of the convention is now “all system go’.
Nuño said that Mayor Evelyn T. Uy  of Dipolog City who is the chairperson of the council in Dipolog, will host a dinner on the second night of the convention  for all the delegates nationwide.

Nuño explained that among the issues and concerns that the convention will tackle are the development and upliftment of women and children on their socio-economic life, women’s contribution to society, the forming of organization or association for small-scale business and food production for one-top product, helping the promotion of tourism activities and helping peace and order.

According to Nuño, the hosting of the convention was originally scheduled November 26 -28,2011, but it was postponed due to the peace and order problem in the municipality of Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay wherein the military and police conducted and operations against moro kidnappers.

Nuño said had the convention pushed through last November, many participants from neighboring cities like Iligan, Cagayan De Oro City, Davao City, General Santos City and Central Mindanao would not have attended because they will travel by land. — Allen Abastillas
