Reacting to the new policy of Philhealth that cut the government’s medical insurance subsidy for several sectors, District 2 Congressman Erbie A. Fabian yesterday said he will try his best to source out funds to maintain the Philhealth insurance of some 2,000 beneficiaries under his office.

Fabian said he sympathizes with the thousands of Philhealth beneficiaries who are affected by the announcement that the national government will no longer help subsidize their medical insurance next year.

“I will try to find ways in sourcing out funds to be able to maintain the 2,000 Philhealth beneficiaries under my office. Every year I appropriate P1.5 million for my recipients. If I will maintain the same amount naturally the number of recipients will have to be reduced, but I will really try my best to look for other funds to maintain the number,” Fabian said.

Fabian stressed his support to Mayor Celso Lobregat in fighting for the retention of the Philhealth insurance to the more than 30,000 recipients in the city. The recipients include barangay officials, health workers, mediamen and others.

“I will always side with the mayor because it is the most legitimate thing to do. There should be no qualms about who is giving the insurance card because the intention is good and that is to help the poor people of the city. It is just a matter of identifying the right persons,” Fabian pointed out. — NS
