ARMM Police Director Chief Supt. Bienvenido Latag has placed the entire police force in the region on alert status during the holidays.

His directive came following the discovery of an improvised explosive device in Isabela City, Basilan on Monday.

“We should be one or two steps ahead of lawless elements so that they could not carry out their evil motives,” Latag told provincial police officials in a recent gathering here.

For several weeks now, police have instituted various security measures as the Christmas holidays started to heat up.

Responding to a report of a concerned citizen, elements of Isabela City Police Station, 3rd and 4th Platoons, Basilan PPSC (Philippine Public safety Company) and PNP Special Action Force (SAF) cordoned the vicinity of Basilan Cycle Center Motor store located at Barangay Aguada, Isabela City, Basilan wherein Explosive Ordinance Division (EOD) of 53rd SAC (SAF) performed a Render Safe Procedure (RPS) and recovered an IED at about 3:45 p.m.

Initial investigation disclosed that one Alisukri Sanuuk Said, a helper at said establishment, noticed the blue cellophane hanging at the right handle bar of the motorcycle previously parked by an unidentified person prompting him to alert the authorities.

Security forces recovered bomb components such as one blasting cap 8, one battery 9 Volts, two pen light batteries, wireless doorbell, concrete nails, Anfo Container (milk can), Silicon control rectifier, two lead light emitting diode, four resistors, jack connector, female slide switch/toggle switch male, and a battery terminal for 9 Volts.
Authorities believed that the motive of bombing plot was to inflict harm and injuries and even death to anybody because of the presence of concrete nails made into shrapnel of the IED.

Latag also lauded the civilian who quickly alerted the police in the vicinity.
