As if making a mockery of the law enforcement in Zamboanga City, killers last Saturday shot and killed two policemen in the latest gunslaying in Zamboanga City.

PO1 Dexter Guanzon y Bantoto, 29, single of Mayor Drive, Tumaga Interior and assigned at the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company and Gilbert Enriquez y Perez, of Alvarez Drive, Don Alfaro St., Tetuan, of the 9th RPSB were killed in a gun attack along Veterans Avenue extension last Saturday night.

The incident was the latest of a spate of gunslayings in Zamboanga  City.

A police report disclosed that Guanzon and Enriquez were drinking inside Candies Store around 11:40 p.m. when two men armed with M16 rifles arrived and shot them at close range. The duo sustained multiple bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot. Investigators also discovered that Enriquez sustained a stab wound in the body.

The gunmen slowly went out of the store and boarded a get-away van that sped away toward unknown direction. Another witness account showed that gunmen escaped on foot.

Police said that Guada Arcillas y Alvarez, 26, single, was with the two policemen during the gun attack. She however escaped unhurt.

Recovered at the crime scene were 22 spent shells of 5.56 caliber (M-16 rifle)  at the crime scene.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin de Ocampo disclosed that Tetuan police investigators have gathered a lead as to the identities of the killers as investigation was still ongoing.

It was learned that Guanzon was undergoing ISOC schooling.

Investigators are looking into love triangle as the possible motive behind the killing of the two policemen. — Dan Toribio Jr.
