A lay minister of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church was shot dead yesterday,  the eightth in a spate of gunslayings in two weeks in Zamboanga City.

Rev. Melecio Magdayao, 71, of Suterville, this city was shot in broad daylight along Veterans Avenue at noon yesterday. He sustained two bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo disclosed that Magdayao was sitting in the frontseat of a passenger jeepney bound for Putik around 12 noon when a motorcycle sidled up the PUJ and the backrider opened fire on Magdayao.

The motorcycle sped towards Sta. Cruz after the incident.

Recovered at the crime scene were two spent shells of .45 caliber pistol.

De Ocampo said the shooting was caught by CCTV surveillance camera of establishments nearby.

He said Tetuan police investigators  were still coordinating with the management of the establishments to review the video footagefor the possible identification of the killer.

Last Sunday two policemen were killed in gun attack at Veterans Avenue extension. A day before, two men were shot dead in separate shootings in Cawit and Putik. — Dan Toribio Jr.
