Effective January 8, 2012, the Zamboanga  City Police Office will be open for any senior police officer who is qualified to lead the command, according to Police Regional
Office 9 Director Chief Supt. Elpidio Z. De Asis Jr. quoting a directive from PNP national headquarters in Camp Crame.

De Asis said that City Police Director  Sr. Supt. Edwin Deocampo has already served in the command for two years and Camp Crame has advised him (De Asis) to open it for new candidates.

De Asis sent to Camp Crame a list of five senior officers who are contenders to  lead the ZCPO. He identified them as Sr. Supt. Sofronio Elcadre, a  lawyer and head of PRO-9’s Human Resources and Management, Sr. Supt. Jonathan Perez, Sr. Supt.  Joselito Pajarillaga who heads the Regional Intelligence Unit, Sr. Supt. Ronaldo Ilagan who heads the Regional Logistic Command and Sr. Supt. Nelson Eucogco.

“I already sent the five names to Camp Crame’s Senior Officers Placement  Board and it’s up to them to decide. Thereafter, Camp Crame will send it back to me and I will give it to Mayor Celso Lobregat, who  will decide and replace Sr. Supt. Deocampo,” De Asis said.

He said that there are also other applicants from other regions who would like to lead ZCPO and serve Zamboanga City.

De Asis lauded Deocampo for the reduced crime incidence in Zamboanga City under his term.

The police regional director explained that there are some isolated incidents  in the city that can not be controlled by law enforcers but the police are doing their best with the help of the military to solve criminalties.

Meanwhile, De Asis has directed policemen to celebrate Christmas together with their family and loved ones. — Allen Abastillas
