TICKLE ME PINK: Very unmemorable year PDF Print E-mail

Year 2011 is so unmemorable year to the people of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City due to the rampage of typhoon Sendong. To think that only a few days from now, 2011 is almost leaving us. Luzon had also been recently devastated by typhoon Ondoy. Perhaps there would still be good memories to cherish, but bad memories will also be imprinted in the minds of those families who suffered deaths of members of their families.

God had spared us through Mama Mary. If Typhoon Sendong passed by our beloved City, I guess the same thing would have happened to us. It can even be worst as a lot of our people live in stilt houses, and these could have been blown away by strong winds. Even our own roofs at home would have been flown away.

I’m serious when I said this as our house is 45 years old, almost half a century old. How many old homes are there yet, that would be affected by typhoons? Your answer is as good as mine.

I’m glad that a group of concerned citizens belonging to the private and government sectors have gathered together to discuss means and ways on how to prevent similar occurrence in case we experience big typhoons in our area. Disasters may come unexpectedly and so it is wise to be prepared. One of the ideas that came out from the disaster group is to remove all houses built along the shoreline, which to me is a very laudable idea! For sure, these stilt houses can not withstand strong winds and rain brought about by typhoons.
Planning way ahead is very laudable!
